MIA

I've been MIA this past couple of weeks, it's been a whirlwind of emotions, activity, excitement and more since my son got off the plane from Great Lakes to enjoy his leave before reporting to Camp Pendleton tomorrow morning!
As I mentioned before, when he arrived he was very ill. Being a man and all he refused to go to the doctor even though Dad and I were sure he needed medical treatment.

I hate to say "I told you so" but, I did!! The kid had "severe" Pneumonia!! Luckily he was able to come home and ordered on bed rest and given some strong antibiotics. He took the meds, but ignored the bed rest orders.

Good news, he's fine now. He's had his own share of ups and downs and heartbreaks and joys in this short amount of time. We had his party, but silly me, I forgot to get the promised photos!

BUT.....he did get a new flashy ride and we got pictures of that:

Quite a few friends and family have asked if he is still happy with his decision to enlist. When asked, his answer is over all a yes as while many of his friends his age are working dead end jobs or still trying to figure out what they want to do with their lives he already has a HUGE head start on a good career, a nice car, money in his pocket, some in the bank and always knows he will have a roof over his head and food in his belly.

Sometimes he does admit to feeling sad though that he has to be far away and not able to have the same regular day to day activities and involvement with his friends that they all enjoy. Like anything in life though, there is always a trade off. He's not so sure he will stay in until retirement anymore, but he will at least finish up his five years proudly and keeping his mind open about the possibilities beyond that.
